Dress up your home for Fall and Winter          By Wendy K. Hampton,  Staff Designer

When the shades of fall and winter appear on the landscape, we are often moved to reflect those changes in our homes.   The vast range of seasonal decor offers a multitude of options.   Many people though, prefer a subtle change that reflects a new season, without being overt about it.    This is when things start to get fun!   Why not freshen up the look of your home with some simple ideas and let creativity be your guide.

New throw pillows.   The plethora of fabrics available today make coordinating your color scheme with alternate fabrics one of the easiest ways to give your new living space a new look.   If you've previously only had two bolster pillows on your sofa, why not cozy things up a little with 3 to 5.   It will give your sofa a comfy, luxurious look and feel.    Mix your patterns, while keeping consistent in your over all color pallet.

Change your artwork, both what is hanging and where it is hanging.   Who made the rule that once a picture is hung it must stay were it has been placed?    Try some new and different locations or groupings.    A little spackle and a spot of paint can erase any sign of where it used to hang.

Change out those silks and dried flowers!   Reflect the hues of the season inside your home.   This will create symmetry between your inner and outer domains as the colors of fall and winter reflect though your windows.

Lighting;   We were all spoiled by sunny summer weather.   There was hardly any need to bother with extra lighting then.    But, as the days get shorter and the daylight is filtered through the clouds, the need for direct and indirect lighting increases.   Give your room a warm glow with table lamps, accent lights, and even candles.   Create a warm, inviting environment that will make those dreary winter days more tolerable!

Fall is a season when we naturally start spending more time indoors.    A few simple changes, such as these, will dress up your home for the holidays and help you look at your home with a fresh appreciation.
